The Music
The songs we do in the chorus were written to be sung by and for kids aged 3-8 or thereabouts. They come from two albums of children’s songs by David Rovics, whose children’s songs are used in school musicals and played on children’s radio shows around the world. At the first session, all the kids will be given a CD and a songbook to bring home.
You can also find David’s albums of children’s music, Ballad of a Dung Beetle and Har Har Har, on all the usual streaming platforms, and by clicking “play” below.
When children (or adults) are familiar with songs, they tend to be more engaged with them. If you’re thinking about signing your kid up for classes, you are encouraged to play the recordings for your kids, when you’re driving, or whenever you listen to recorded music together. Kids and parents are also welcome to take home sheet music with lyrics and chords for all the songs.
While all playful and age-appropriate, David’s songs explore a variety of themes around social justice issues, including bullying, bias, and nontraditional family structures.
